Canadian full-service public and private environmental design, construction, financing, operations and maintenance solutions provider, Maple Reinders Group, has divested its majority-owned subsidiary company, AIM Group Ltd., to Convertus Canada.

For over two decades, the AIM Group has been a partner in the Maple Reinders portfolio, having designed, built, operated and maintained municipal organics aerobic and anaerobic facilities across Canada. Through AIM Group, Maple Reinders operated several of Canada’s largest and most advanced municipal organics treatment facilities, processing and managing some 10% of Canada’s residential organics waste.

President and CEO of Maple Reinders Group, Harold Reinders, said that the sale to Convertus Canada represents an “exciting opportunity” for the AIM Group to “continue its growth trajectory” under new ownership.

“We are proud of the legacy that the AIM Group has built under our stewardship and direction, particularly its contributions to innovative and sustainable organic waste and renewable energy solutions,” Reinders said in a statement.

Maple Reinders, which recently completed the construction and commissioning of one of North America’s most advanced municipal organics aerobic digestion facilities in Halifax, Nova Scotia, will also continue to provide extended commissioning, short and long-term temporary facility management, and comprehensive full-scale operations and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment facilities through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Maple Facilities Management.

Reuben Scholtens, national vice-president of Maple Reinders Group, said that the acquisition strengthens Convertus Canada’s position as a market leader in sustainable waste management, leveraging the AIM Group’s established expertise and track record.

Since its start in 2019, Convertus has more than tripled in size. In 2022, it acquired Envirem Organics, an environmental company specializing in high-quality organic products. Growth continued in 2024 with the addition of an operational facility from Freestate Farms in Manassas, Virginia. Through the acquisition of AIM, Convertus Group will now be a team of more than 350 individuals with 19 sites across three countries, five provinces, and two states.

“In combining two industry leaders with successful track records, we are solidifying our presence as Canada’s largest organic waste processor, allowing us to better serve our customers and fulfill our mission to close the loop and create a sustainable future for all,” announced Convertus CEO Mike Leopold.
