Completion of the Stephenfield Regional Water Treatment Plant expansion project, in southern Manitoba, was announced on October 20, 2017, approximately two months ahead of schedule.

According to Infrastructure Canada, the expansion project involved building a new water treatment facility, complete with a larger reservoir and membrane filtration equipment. These upgrades were finished ahead of the anticipated completion date of December 31, 2017, and doubled the plant’s treatment capacity.

The Stephenfield Regional Water Treatment Plant is run by the Pembina Valley Water Co-Op, which is owned by 14 municipal governments in Southern Manitoba and operates three water treatment facilities supplying water to a population base of approximately 50,000 people over 9,000 square kilometres.

The governments of Canada and Manitoba each contributed up to $1 million to this project through the Small Communities Fund, while the Pembina Valley Water Co-op provided the balance of the $6.3 million total project cost.
