Thermoplastic piping systems manufacturer, IPEX, has announced the debut of its  Municipal Training Vehicle, a platform designed to deliver practical, high-value PVC education directly to municipal operators, inspectors, and contractors across Ontario.

The vehicle supports IPEX’s established municipal training programs — PVC 101, PVC 102, and PVC 201 — helping crews build skills in watermain and sewer pipe installation, maintenance, and product selection.

IPEX’s training has helped municipalities improve installation quality, reduce long-term maintenance issues, and stay up-to-date on evolving product options and standards for more than a decade. The new vehicle enhances that mission by efficiently transporting all required pipe materials, tools, fittings, mechanical restraints, and tapping equipment directly to customer sites, enabling efficient, on-location training.

“The training vehicle allows us to bring a complete hands-on experience right to municipal yard and contractor shops and sites across the province,” says IPEX Municipal Technical Sales Representative Nunzio LeRose. “It’s fully outfitted with the pipes, fittings, tools, and pipe stands we need to teach proper installation techniques — whether we’re working with conventional C900, Fusible PVC, or Molecularly Oriented PVCO (Bionax).”

The training vehicle allows IPEX to conduct sessions directly at municipal or contractor facilities, eliminating travel barriers for field crews — especially during busy seasons or emergency response periods.

The Municipal Training Vehicle supports three courses, each offering 0.4 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and delivered free of charge, with lunch included.

PVC 101: Water (0.4 CEUs) — MOEECC Director Approved

A four-hour classroom program focused on buried PVC watermain design, installation, testing, maintenance, and repair. Training includes:

  • Review of current industry standards
  • Installation methods, including open-cut, HDD, and pipe-bursting
  • Design considerations for modern PVC water systems
  • Completion of a short exam to earn CEUs.

PVC 102: Tapping (0.4 CEUs) — MOEECC Director Approved

A signature hands-on course combining a 30-minute overview with full practical training. Crews assemble PVC watermain sections using fittings, restraints, service saddles, and end caps before practicing tapping on:

  • Dry Tap C900 PVC
  • Fusible PVC
  • Live Tap C909 PVCO

PVCO pipe sections are water-pressurized to simulate real-world conditions.

“Operators love this course because it’s real, hands-on work,” LeRose says. “We cover torque settings, restraints, tapping procedures, and all the do’s and don’t’s that help ensure a watermain is installed safely and correctly. Even seasoned crews walk away with new techniques and insights.”

PVC 201: Sewer (0.4 CEUs)

A classroom-based course covering:

  • PVC sewer design and installation
  • Testing, maintenance, and repair
  • Sewer pipe rehabilitation
  • Protection of sanitary drop structures with modern PVC solutions

Recent and upcoming Ontario training and appearances include:

  • Woodstock
  • Sudbury
  • Lincoln (Niagara Region)
  • Wolseley Training Day, London,
  • Niagara Region
  • Brantford
  • Municipal Engineers Association (MEA)
  • Upcoming: GTA municipalities, including Vaughan, Toronto, and Richmond Hill
  • Upcoming: Ontario Sewer and Watermain Construction Association (OSWCA) Conference (January 21-22, 2026) — Niagara Falls
  • Upcoming: GTSWCA Municipal Infrastructure Summit (February 10, 2026) — Vaughan

“Our goal is to make municipal training accessible, practical, and beneficial for everyone — from new operators to 30-year veterans,” says LeRose. “We come to them, we tailor the sessions to their systems, and we make sure they leave with skills they can use the next day on the job.”

Training includes detailed discussions on IPEX’s leading municipal PVC solutions, including:

These products are increasingly being adopted, as municipalities replace aging materials, such as ductile iron, cast iron, concrete, or copper, with long-lasting PVC alternatives.

How to Schedule Training

Municipalities, contractors, and distributors can request training sessions by contacting their local IPEX municipal sales representative. Training availability is coordinated based on municipal, contractor and vehicle scheduling.
