General Electric confirmed that it is exploring options for selling its Water & Process Technology business in a news release on October 31, 2016.
GE confirmed its intent to sell the water business after announcing it would be combining its oil and gas business with Baker Hughes, a supplier of oilfield services, technologies and products.
According to GE, the plan to divest its water business is a “strategic decision that provides an opportunity to reposition the business for growth and further invest for long-term success.”
Water and wastewater products owned by GE cover a wide range of treatment technologies, including membrane filtration, anaerobic technology, analytic instruments, chemicals and more. However, the Wall Street Journal estimated that the water portion contributed under 10% to GE Power & Water’s revenue.
