Canadian companies with cutting-edge water and wastewater technologies are being invited to participate in an eight-day trade mission to the Philippines and Malaysia this fall, as part of a federal push to support clean technology exports to the Indo-Pacific region.

Running from November 26 to December 3, 2025, the mission is led by the Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) in collaboration with the National Research Council of Canada’s Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED). It forms part of the Advancing International Clean Technology Demonstrations (AICTD) initiative under Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy.

The mission will connect Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises with water and wastewater decision-makers in Manila and Kuala Lumpur, providing market briefings, site visits, networking events, and customized business-to-business meetings, according to the Trade Commissioner Service.

“Our mission experience was highly valuable, offering a unique opportunity to engage in pre-arranged meetings with key stakeholders and gain insights through site visits,” announced Mitchell Miller, CEO of Atlas Power Technologies Inc.

Mitchell added that the meetings arranged by the Trade Commissioner Service facilitated meaningful discussions with industry leaders, educated him about the market landscape, and strengthened his firm’s strategic direction while opening doors for future collaborations.

The Philippines is urgently addressing water infrastructure challenges tied to urbanization, climate change, and uneven water distribution. Local interest is rising in smart water systems, decentralized treatment, and digital tools to tackle issues such as non-revenue water and aging infrastructure. Canada’s participation aligns with its 2030 goal of achieving universal access to safe drinking water through the Philippine Water Supply and Sanitation Master Plan.

Malaysia is similarly undertaking a major transformation of its water sector, including digitalization and efficiency-focused upgrades. Its Water Sector Transformation 2040 plan promotes private-sector collaboration and advanced technologies to improve service delivery and environmental compliance. Canadian technologies focused on AI, modular systems, and energy efficiency are particularly well suited to the market, with manufacturers also seeking solutions in line with new zero-discharge regulations.

The AICTD mission is open to Canadian clean-tech firms with export-ready technologies and the capacity to scale internationally. Selected firms will be invited to apply for NRC IRAP travel funding of up to $5,000 to cover 75% of eligible travel and accommodation costs.

Participants will benefit from curated B2B matchmaking, local networking sessions, and on-the-ground support from the TCS. The program is designed to help firms gain market insights, pitch to targeted audiences, and build long-term international partnerships.

Interested companies must submit an expression of interest by June 13, 2025. Applications will be vetted jointly by TCS, ISED, and NRC IRAP to determine eligibility. For further details, contact: cleantechdemonstrations@international.gc.ca.
