Fans of Canadian rock icon Bryan Adams were left disappointed on February 9 after Australian concert promoters pulled the plug on a gig due to fatberg-related flooding.
Crews were dispatched to clear the large blockage of fat, grease and rags, which had caused several wastewater overflows at properties along the major street near the RAC Arena in Perth.
According to a statement by the Water Corporation, the show was “cancelled due to the risk of sewage backing up within the venue toilets, posing a potential public health risk.”
Many fans of the Summer of ‘69 star had already begun to queue for the sold-out show and expressed disappointment online about the timing of the cancellation announcement. While the Water Corporation had been dealing with overflow issues in the area throughout the day, the utility had hoped to resolve the issue before the concert began. Once it became clear that the arena’s basement was experiencing backups, however, the concert organizers pulled the plug to protect public health.

“I’m really sorry we couldn’t make this happen tonight — I was so looking forward to seeing you all,” Adams posted on Facebook.
Crews finally cleared the fatberg blockage several hours after the Bryan Adams show was scheduled to start.
