The inconvenient truth of nitrous oxide emissions from wastewater treatment

Nitrous oxide has a global warming potential of 298 times that of carbon dioxide and is emitted by all secondary wastewater treatment plants. However, current understanding suggests it is unlikely that the wastewater industry can reach zero N2O emissions.
